Ionbond Sweden opens new, high-capacity coating center
Ionbond Sweden is opening a state-of-the-art coating centre. The new facility will triple the company's floor space and boost production capacity, enabling to better serve various sectors, including cutting, forming, automotive, decorative, and industrial components. The new plant is carbon-neutral and is 100% renewable energy-powered. It is the result of the company’s commitment to growth and sustainability. Ionbond Sweden is now ready to take on larger orders, further solidifying its reputation as a dependable global partner for high-quality coating solutions.
More production capacity
Good news for manufacturing companies in the Nordic countries and the Baltics: Ionbond Sweden is opening a completely new plant on 1 July. A significant upgrade from the old building, the new plant has 3 times the floor space, 2 new machines, a new cleaning line and a much better production flow. All in all, the plant has 40% more production capacity to serve the current and future needs of their customers – and is expecting to fill that capacity completely.

Magnus Haglund, Managing Director for Ionbond Sweden, says: “We are one of the only plants that serve almost all segments: cutting, forming, automotive, deco, and industrial components. This served us well during the Covid-19 pandemic – while some sectors saw a decline, others soared. During and after the pandemic, we have done well, even gradually doubling our team.”
One area that the team is looking to expand in is the decorative sector. “A lot is happening in that sector,” says Mattias Wallberg, Sales Manager Components. “We’re able to offer more and more interesting colors at excellent quality, and we’ve already received many requests from companies looking to fill up our new production capacity.”

Close collaboration as a starting point for global support
An interesting aspect of the Swedish market is that many of Ionbond’s customers there are export suppliers, large companies that serve the global market from Sweden. Magnus: “Sweden isn’t that big of a country, but it has a massive amount of global companies, which are well-known around the world for their quality products.”
For companies like these, Ionbond is a great global partner. Jörgen Hansen, Sales Manager Cutting Tools, explains: “We can work very closely with the company in their home territory Sweden. Bringing together Ionbond’s coating expertise with our customers’ designs to develop a high-quality, cost-efficient solution, until their stringent criteria are satisfied. And then, we can offer them the same coating types, coating quality and service worldwide, wherever they may have factories.”
“We don’t just want to be any supplier, we want to be a partner for our customers on all levels.”

New center, same reliable service
With the new capacity, the team at Ionbond Sweden can be sure to offer customers the same high service quality as ever, even though they are serving more customers and larger projects.
At the heart of Ionbond’s service is decades of expertise, both locally and globally. Magnus: “We have a dedicated technical department that we can involve, depending on the needs of our customers. Globally, at Ionbond, we have specialists for all industries. And we also have a lot of local experience – many of our team members have been at the company for over 15 years, and for the new hires we’ve also chosen to focus on highly skilled experts.”
Part of the team’s growth strategy is investing in being a great employer. Jörgen: “We seek to hire even more people in the region, who can help us make the most out of our new capacity and new technologies. Our team members get to work very closely with our customers, the Ionbond centers of competence for each business area, and renowned institutes and universities. We develop new coatings as a team, launch new coatings within the group, and are involved very early in the definition process with our customers. That expertise and variety means that we’re very interesting for coating specialists who want to grow in their field.”

Seizing opportunities for a more sustainable future
Ionbond Sweden also invests in sustainability:
“As part of a drive towards more sustainable industry, some companies are bringing manufacturing back to Sweden,” says Magnus. “This is more sustainable than shipping components halfway around the world twice. For Ionbond, too, sustainability is an important value, so we applaud this initiative.”
“This A-level energy class is fairly unique for a production facility,” says Magnus. “In the last 15 years, we’ve put a lot of effort into reducing the energy consumption of our machines. The average energy use of PVD coatings (in kWh/batch) today is 60% less than it was 12-15 years ago. We’ve equipped our plants and our machines with many sensors to measure energy use, so we can find the most energy inefficient processes and improve them – from slower heating speeds to optimized coating processes.”
