Medthin™ 65 Ti

A PVD Ti alternative to APS and VPS technology

Medthin 65 Ti is a metallic Titanium coating deposited with physical vapor deposition with chemical properties and a morphology that is suitable for cell on growth. It is suitable for dental, trauma, orthopaedic and spine Implant applications. Ionbond’s proprietary coating process can reach surface roughness in the range of Ra 1- 3 µm or more, depending on the requirements. PVD Titanium is applied on the bone contact side of implants:

• Over any metal beads or metallic-roughened structure
• Over substrate materials like PEEK or PEKK

The coating is deposited with generation II or generation III PVD technology, enabling high coating adhesion strength (>20MPa, according to ASTM F1147) and keeping the PEEK/PEKK structure properties intact with its low deposition temperature (<140°C). The effects of the coating process on the PEEK structure have been verified by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Medthin 65 Ti PVD is a denser and thinner coating than typical VPS or APS-Ti coatings and has the advantage of generating virtually no debris. The coating thickness can vary from few nanometers to several micronmeters.
