Ionbond UK further expands capacity for decorative applications

IHI Ionbond is pleased to announce a significant investment in our decorative coating capacity: a Hauzer Flexicoat® 1500 PVD system. This large-scale coating system has an impressive coating zone of 0.9m diameter by 1.5m high and is a welcome addition to the growing capabilities of the Ionbond component coating facility at Consett County Durham. The facility already boasts an unrivalled range of technologies, including cathodic arc, magnetron sputtering, advanced HIPIMS and large- and medium-scale PACVD diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating equipment.
New economies of scale to better serve our customers
The Flexicoat 1500 is equipped with 4 arc sources and 2 unbalanced magnetron sputtering sources. It was installed during Autumn 2021 and features all the benefits we have come to expect from Hauzer. The capabilities of the system are impressive, being able to deposit an expanded range of decorative PVD coatings including the new range of Barrion™ antibacterial coatings, which adds to the centre’s already wide portfolio of decorative colours.

It provides new decorative finishes that were previously unavailable. In addition, the new system gives us additional capacity and economy of scale, putting Ionbond at an advantage over our competitors and allowing us to reduce lead times for our customers.”
Quality coatings for a wide range of industries
Ionbond UK holds key accreditations such as AS/EN 9100, NADCAP and ISO 13485 as well as OEM-specific approvals such as those from Rolls Royce, Airbus and many more. We offer coating services from two coating facilities in the UK. Consett serves customers in the industrial component (aerospace, oil & gas, food processing, architectural hardware and racing), luxury decorative and medical industries. Mansfield serves the cutting and forming tool markets with a wide range of advanced coatings – including ultra-hard hydrogen-free DLC coatings (Tetrabond™ Plus) that are excellent for non-ferrous and composite cutting as well as aluminium forming. The DLC equipment at Mansfield has also recently undergone major technical upgrades to provide class-leading coatings for the foreseeable future.
