Reliable capacity with the backing of global expertise

An important benefit of working with Ionbond is the support from the global competence centers for new applications and coatings. André Hieke, Global Segment Manager Automotive: “For our automotive coatings around the world, we use Hauzer Flexicoat machines with fixed procedures and recipes that have been approved and validated at the competence center. That means we deliver the same excellent coating quality around the world, no matter where you are.”

The machines are all connected to the competence center remotely, to load up new recipes, fine tune them for new products and give technical support if needed. Thanks to bi-weekly meetings with the competence center, Ionbond’s automotive customers can trust that they have the best solutions at hand.

Growing use of PVD coatings in two- and three-wheeler production

Specific to the Indian automotive market, the number of cars sold annually is eclipsed by the huge numbers of two- and three-wheeled vehicles. “This is a growth market for Ionbond,” says Atul Kelkar, Senior Manager – Components Business. “These vehicles, especially with engines larger than 200cc, are increasingly using PVD coatings to improve their service life and performance. For instance on finger followers, rocker shafts and starter pins, all high wear and tear components. In addition, of course, we coat piston pins and piston rings, components in internal combustion engines and fuel injection components where PVD coatings are commonly used.”

Further growth applications for Ionbond India in automotive are e-mobility, hydrogen technology, heavy-duty vehicles and hybrid engines using CNG. “The new Flexicoat 1500 machine will be a great benefit to these markets too,” says Atul Kelkar. “For instance, from developments in the US and Europe, we know that it is important to use protective coatings on the differential pins of electric vehicles. These components are under higher loads compared to combustion engine cars, because the electrical motor provides higher rotation speeds and torque. In the new 1500 machine, we are perfectly equipped to load larger batches of these long, narrow components, providing a cost-effective solution.”
