Smudge-free surfaces, PFAS-free technology

The whole world is looking for surfaces with anti-fingerprint properties for their high-touch personal items and household appliances. Ionbond’s PFAS-free anti-fingerprint PVD coatings, which are increasingly popular, reduce the appearance of fingerprints, smudges, and oil. Typically applied to matte and brushed surfaces, our anti-fingerprint coatings make items more resistant to smudging and easier to clean.

The science behind the coatings

Ionbond anti-fingerprint PVD coatings are composed of a thin layer with water- and oil-repellent (hydrophobic and oleophobic) properties. When someone touches a surface, the coating prevents the oils from bonding with the material, which allows the fingerprint to either slide off easily or stay less visible. The coatings also help reduce the buildup of dust, dirt and other contaminants, further keeping the surface clean and smudge-free. The surface is smooth, so any remaining contaminants can be easily cleaned off.

Benefits of anti-fingerprint PVD coatings

Enhanced aesthetics

Anti-fingerprint coatings help keep your items looking fresh and new, with clean, clear surfaces.

Reduced maintenance

If a surface get smudged, cleaning is easier.

Improved durability

Scratch and wear resistance are common properties of PVD coatings.

Better hygiene

With less build-up of oils and dirt, anti-fingerprint coatings improve hygiene for devices that are shared by multiple users.

PFAS-free

These coatings do not contribute to the emission of these ‘forever chemicals’.

Applications of Ionbond’s decorative anti-fingerprint coatings

Household appliances

Stainless steel fridges, ovens and dishwashers maintain their sleek appearance with an anti-fingerprint coating.

Automotive parts

Car dashboards or touchscreens benefit from reduced smudging.

Consumer items

Glasses, watches and phones look crisp even when coming in contact with human skin.
