Racing Cars and Motorsport
Increase longevity and performance of racing engine components.

Engineered coating services for racing vehicles
Racing programs move fast, and decisions need to translate into measurable lap-time consistency. Ionbond supports that pace with proven coating services for high-load racing components, delivered with controlled processes and repeatable quality.
We help you specify the right coating for your applications. The result is stable performance that supports your engineering targets, without adding complexity to your workflow.
Extreme operating conditions define racing performance
Racing cars and motor vehicles operate on a thin margin between peak output and surface overload. Every lap adds heat, load, and sliding contact, while engineers still expect stable power delivery.
Lightweight materials such as aluminum and titanium improve dynamics, yet they wear quickly at critical interfaces. Without wear resistant and friction reduction coatings, tolerances drift, reliability, and performance drops.
Thermal peaks add another challenge across engine, transmission, exhaust, and braking systems. Thermal barrier coating and high-temperature resistant exhaust coatings protect hot zones, while brake disc coating and brake caliper coating help surfaces withstand repeated stress.
This is why automotive surface treatment matters in racing and motorsport. High performance automotive coatings protect parts when the operating window is unforgiving.

Ionbond’s coating services for racing vehicles
Ionbond supports racing and motorsport programs with coating solutions designed for extreme loads and temperatures. Our coatings are used in Formula 1, NASCAR, MotoGP, WRC, DTM, and OSS racing, where reliability under maximum stress defines results.
The Tribobond™ coating portfolio is fully applicable to racing powertrains and chassis components. Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings reduce friction and protect highly loaded interfaces, while hard PVD coatings increase wear resistance and thermal stability in critical areas.
These protective coating solutions are applied through controlled PVD, PACVD coating, and selected CVD coating process routes. Advanced vacuum coating services ensure uniform layers on complex racing components and consistent performance under extreme operating conditions.
Why choose Ionbond coatings?
Controlled friction at the limit
Low-friction coating systems reduce energy losses and stabilize tribological contacts under extreme load.
Protection of lightweight materials
Wear resistant coatings safeguard aluminum and titanium components where base materials lack durability.
Thermal stability under peak conditions
Thermal barrier and high-temperature coating concepts protect parts exposed to sustained heat cycles.
Higher reliability during race conditions
Coated surfaces resist scuffing, seizure, and surface fatigue when operating windows are narrow.
Consistent performance across race cycles
Controlled surface treatment delivers repeatable coating quality under extreme operating conditions.
Our coating solutions for racing vehicle components
Ionbond’s coating portfolio for racing car and motorsport components offers the perfect solutions to meet the challenges that modern mechanical components are exposed to.

Valve and crank train components
Whenever possible, modern racing engines use lightweight materials to reach optimal engine dynamics and reduce overall weight. Most of these materials (e.g. titanium and aluminum) are relatively soft and cannot provide the level of wear resistance required for stable performance. This is especially true for high loaded components of the valve and crank train. Tribobond™ coatings on such engineered components provide a remarkable improvement in surface hardness and wear resistance, with the added benefit of decreasing friction. In extreme cases, the coatings can also be applied to cam- and crankshafts for enhancement of their tribological properties and performance boost.
Typical parts include:
- Connecting rods
- Pistons and piston pins
- Piston rings
- Valve tappets
- Finger followers
- Inlet and outlet valves
- Crankshafts

Chassis and suspension
There are many components on the chassis and suspension that benefit greatly from the use of low-friction, wear-reducing coatings to increase their safe functioning. The Tribobond™ line of component coatings offers a wide range of options for individual situations.
Typical parts include:
- Wheel hubs
- Shock absorber tubes (motorbikes)
- Bearings
- Fasteners
