Coating solutions for off-road vehicles

Off-road programs demand robust components and predictable manufacturing. Ionbond supports OEMs and suppliers with coating services that translate performance targets into repeatable surface solutions, from development parts to series production. Independent from the drive technology such as diesel or hydrogen combustion engines and battery electric commercial vehicles we offer customized automotive coating solutions.

We help you specify the right coating route and apply it with controlled vacuum processes, supported by the Tribobond™ and Ionbond™ coating portfolios. This gives you consistent surface performance across components, batches, and production cycles.

Harsh environments push off-road components to their limits

Off-road vehicles work in dirt, sand, moisture, and shock. Construction and agricultural machines run under high loads, where abrasion and contamination attack surfaces from day one.

Powertrains, transmissions, and suspension parts operate with narrow lubrication media margins. Without wear resistant coating and friction reduction coating, surface damage accelerates and efficiency drops. Corrosion resistant coating and fastener corrosion protection help maintain reliability when components face water, mud, and aggressive media.

In off-road work, downtime happens on site and impacts productivity immediately. Robust automotive surface treatment supports longer service life and more predictable operation in harsh environments.

Ionbond’s coating services for off-road vehicles

Ionbond provides off-road vehicles with coating solutions built for abrasion, contamination, and high load. Each coating route is defined based on the component, material, and duty cycle.

Tribobond™ diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings reduce friction and protect moving interfaces, while hard PVD coatings add wear resistance and corrosion protection. These protective coating solutions are applied through controlled PVD, PACVD coating, and selected CVD coating process routes, supported by repeatable vacuum coating services.

Why choose Ionbond coatings?

Higher wear resistance

Wear resistant coating protects parts exposed to green fuels, dry gases, low viscosity oils or abrasive media like soil, sand, dust and debris.

Reduced friction

Friction reduction coating lowers energy losses and stabilizes tribological contacts.

Improved corrosion protection

Corrosion resistant coating helps components withstand moisture, mud, and aggressive media.

Protection against galling and scuffing

Coatings reduce surface damage on heavily loaded steel interfaces in harsh duty cycles and bad lubricated conditions.

Hydrogen diffusion barrier

Diffusion barrier coating to protect the steel base material against hydrogen embrittlement.

Longer service life

Robust automotive surface treatment supports uptime in demanding off-road operation.

Consistent quality

Controlled vacuum coating services ensure repeatable coating performance across volumes.

Turbocharger

Turbochargers

Tribobond™ coatings protect large turbocharger components that operate under high load, high speed, and elevated temperature. They are commonly applied to thrust bearings and seal rings, where stable wear protection helps maintain tight clearances, reliable function under harsh operating and bad lubricated conditions.

In the hot turbine section, Ionbond™ CVD coatings help reduce fouling and contamination build-up that can accelerate wear and efficiency losses. This supports more consistent turbocharger performance in off-road duty cycles with dust, soot, and thermal cycling.

Earth-moving & agricultural equipment

Selected coatings from the Tribobond™ portfolio provide effective protection against abrasion in off-road environments, where soil and sand act like grinding media on exposed surfaces. They help reduce material losses on high-wear parts such as track pins and key cultivator wear components, supporting longer service life and more predictable operation in the field.
