Coating solutions for commercial vehicles

Commercial vehicles demand surfaces that perform reliably over long service intervals, under continuous load and full vehicle lifetime. Engines, drivetrains, and fuel systems must deliver efficiency and durability across diverse operating conditions, from long-haul transport last mile delivery duty.

Ionbond provides coating services tailored to these commercial vehicle requirements. Our thin-film solutions support robust component design, stable series production, and predictable performance throughout the vehicle lifecycle.

Continuous load defines commercial vehicle performance

Commercial vehicles run under sustained load. Heavy-duty trucks operate for long hours at high torque, with limited recovery time. That continuous duty puts engines, transmissions, and exhaust systems under constant stress.

Friction, heat, and wear build up across critical interfaces. Without wear resistant and friction reduction coatings, efficiency drops and component degradation accelerates. Emission compliance adds pressure through high-pressure fuel and AdBlue® injection, while catalytic converter coating must withstand high-temperature exposure and corrosive media.

The use of renewable ‘green’ fuels such as bio-fuels, re-fuels, CNG, LNG and hydrogen gas poses a major challenge for the injection components in advanced injection systems. In addition to altered tribological properties such as friction and wear, there is also an increased risk of corrosion on the component surfaces.

For fleets, downtime becomes an immediate cost driver. Robust vacuum surface treatment helps protect reliability and extend service life in long-haul operation.

Ionbond’s coating services for commercial vehicles

Ionbond supports heavy-duty trucks with coating solutions built for continuous load long service intervals and vehicle lifetime. We start from the component, material, and duty cycle, then select the appropriate automotive coating technology.

Tribobond™ diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings reduce friction and protect highly loaded engine and fuel injection parts. Hard PVD coatings add wear resistance and thermal stability for demanding interfaces in engines and transmissions.

These protective coating solutions are applied through controlled PVD, PACVD coating, and selected CVD coating process routes, supported by repeatable vacuum coating services for volume production.

Why choose Ionbond coatings?

Extended service life

Wear resistant coatings protect components during long duty cycles and delay maintenance intervals.

Lower friction losses

Friction reduction coatings support efficiency also in engines powered with alternative ‘green’ fuels and transmissions under continuous load.

Improved wear resistance

Especially for component operate in dry gas or renewable fuels.

Higher efficiency and range

Low-friction surfaces reduce energy losses in hydrogen powered combustion engines H2ICE and electric powertrains.

Stable performance under heat

Coatings maintain surface integrity at elevated temperatures in combustion and exhaust systems.

Protection of critical components

Diamond-like carbon coatings reduce scuffing, galling, and surface fatigue in heavily loaded contacts.

Reliability in volume production

Controlled automotive surface treatment ensures repeatable coating quality for series-built truck components.

Experience in heavy-duty applications

Decades of automotive coating experience support reliable performance in demanding commercial vehicle environments.

Engines and fuel injection coatings

Engines and fuel injection systems define the efficiency, reliability, and emission performance of commercial vehicles. In long-haul operation, these components run under sustained load, high pressure, and elevated temperatures, often over very long service intervals.

Ionbond provides coating solutions that protect critical engine and injection components against wear, friction, and surface fatigue. Also in combination with renewable ‘green’ fuels. Our thin-film coatings support stable performance, emission compliance, extended service, and lifetime life in demanding commercial vehicle applications.
