E-mobility and the hydrogen economy
Ionbond’s Tribobond™ 40 hard, carbon-based coatings are used for many purposes in e-mobility. For instance, they are used to minimize the friction losses in electric drive trains and to extend the driving range of battery electric cars (BEV). Coated components for e-compressors, water pumps, sealing, steering and braking units increase the robustness and lower the energy consumption of non-drive train systems. Diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings are also used in fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) or electrolyzers for the production of “green” hydrogen: the coatings are applied to bipolar plates to enhance their electrical conductivity and to increase the lifetime of the fuel cell stack.
