IHI Ionbond is pleased to announce an investment of nearly £1 million in a Hauzer Flexicoat 850 CARC+ system and associated infrastructure, providing much needed additional capacity. This newly installed equipment provides the next generation of “Plus” coatings, Maximizer Plus, Hardcut Plus & Crosscut Plus and provides a step change in performance. It is a welcome addition to the growing capabilities of Ionbond UKs tool coating facility at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. The facility already boasts an unrivalled range of equipment providing cutting tool coating solutions for ferrous, non-ferrous, exotic and, more recently, for abrasive materials from the equipment installed in 2017 which produces ultra-hard hydrogen free tetrahedral amorphous carbon coatings, called Tetrabond Plus. These investments have propelled Ionbond Mansfield to be the market leader in PVD hard coatings for the UK cutting tool industry, coating more than 100,000 tools per month.
The Flexicoat 850 system was installed and commissioned early January 2019 by IHI Hauzer Techno Coating based in The Netherlands. The equipment features all the technological advancements we have come to expect from Hauzer. The capabilities of the CARC+ system is impressive and boasts new, high efficiency arc sources capable of faster deposition rates, reducing cycle times. A new FIR plasma source etching system ensures the highest level of adhesion whilst maintaining smoothness. These combined advancements produce hard, dense and smooth high-performance coatings which set the bench mark in coating technology. The additional capacity helps maintain the unrivalled service level from the Ionbond Mansfield operation.
Chris Constable, Managing Director of Ionbond UK Ltd said: “This investment in the new high-end coating technology addresses both the current and future needs of UK tool manufacturers, regrinders and end users. The next generation of tool coatings provide longer tool life, leading to efficiency gains for high end manufacturing that is key to competing in an ever more challenging market place. This along with other site expansion and improvements just completed further cements Ionbond UK as the market leader and PVD coater of choice”.
