Blanking and trimming

Extending the lifetime of blanking or trimming tools requires keeping the cutting edges sharp to eliminate burrs and to reduce the sliding wear on the sides of the tools. Ionbond™ PVD and PACVD coatings possess the toughness, wear and galling resistance necessary to increase the productivity of the tools and the quality of the work piece.

Ionbond™ 01, Ionbond™ 10, Ionbond™ 25 and Ionbond™ 62 are coatings suited for blanking and trimming of ferrous alloys, nickel alloys and titanium. Ionbond™ 41 and Ionbond™ 42 are ideal for non-ferrous materials such as aluminum alloys.

Piercing and shaving

Tools used in piercing and shaving operations typically fail due to sliding wear on the sides of the tools created during extraction of the punch from the work piece material. Ionbond™ PVD and PACVD and Bernex™ CVD coatings possess the toughness, wear resistance and frictional properties necessary in order to reduce this sliding wear mechanism. The resulting benefits are the improvements in tool lifetime, along with the part quality.

Ionbond™ 01, Ionbond™ 22, Ionbond™ 25, Ionbond™ 62, Bernex™ 22 and Bernex™ 62 are coatings recommended for piercing applications in ferrous alloys, nickel alloys and titanium. Ionbond™ 40, Ionbond™ 41 and Ionbond™ 43 are preferred options for piercing applications in aluminum alloys.
