Low Friction Tribobond™ DLC on valve train components

The tappet or finger follower interface to the camshaft is where the material is exposed to the highest loads and where a lot of energy is lost due to friction.

Tribobond™ 42 is designed towards handling these loads and provides lower friction, thus making the valve train more efficient and offering the engineer the option of designing more aggressive cam lobe profiles in order to increase the power output.

The properties of Tribobond™ DLC coatings also ease the wear effect of cold starts before oil pressure is built up.

The coating can be applied to the tappets or finger follower only or, alternatively, on the camshaft. If the highest reduction of friction is desired or if there is a risk of loss of lubrication, both mating surfaces are coated.
