IHI Corporation, Ionbond’s parent company, has acquired the German heat treatment service provider VTN Die Härterei from BPE Unternehmensbeteiligungen GmbH., Hamburg in order to expand its activities in surface treatment.

With the acquisition of VTN, IHI enters the European market for heat treatment services. Together with IHI Machinery and Furnace Co., Ltd (IMS), a 100% subsidiary company, IHI now owns two companies serving the market with heat treatment services and equipment. IMS is a top tier supplier of vacuum furnaces and vacuum degreasing equipment with more than 2000 installations world-wide and a leader in vacuum carburizing based on patented technology utilizing acetylene gas.

The combination of VTN’s process and application know-how in conjunction with the engineering excellence of IHI/IMS for heat treatment machinery opens up unprecedented opportunities for our customers in the coming years.

Going forward, VTN, IHI and its two subsidiaries IHI Ionbond AG and IHI Hauzer Technocoating B.V., who provide PVD, CVD and PACVD coating services and equipment, represent a unified supplier of the most comprehensive portfolio of services and equipment for surface treatments. This unquestionably furthers IHI’s ambition to become a global leader in heat treatment and surface treatment technology markets, which are expected to show significant growth in the nearby future.

VTN operates 4 heat treatment centers in Germany and is headquartered in Witten, NRW, Germany.
