Ionbond traces its beginnings to the Swiss automotive manufacturer Berna, which was founded in 1904. Understanding the importance of innovation, Berna created its Bernex Surface Metallurgy division in 1966 and quickly became the undisputed leader in CVD equipment and technology. In 1997 Bernex broadened its technical offer to include PVD technology through the acquisition of Multi-Arc, and changed its name to Ionbond. Today, Ionbond offers the broadest range of thin film technologies, including CVD, PaCVD, PVD, TetraBond and CVA and counts nearly 400 systems in use in over 30 countries around the world.
